Meet the Makers: Glue Craft Studio at Richmond Makers Market

We are excited to announce that Amy and Vanessa from Glue Craft Studio will be on site for Big Queer Weekend - hosted by Richmond Makers Market!

At Glue Craft Studio, creativity isn't just about the final product; it's about the experience and connections formed through crafting. "It’s not really about what we physically create, more about the feelings that are fostered in the process of creation with our clients.” The business was started with the aim to "recreate that sense of community through communal creativity," making it a vibrant hub for both seasoned crafters and those looking to explore their artistic side.

Amy and Vanessa enjoy helping others discover their creative spark. "There is just something very special about sharing a moment with someone when they push beyond what they think they are capable of and let their imagination guide them," they explain.

Starting a small business

The journey has not been without challenges. The excitement of trying to offer vast services initially led to a loss of focus. The team reflected on their goals, realizing that "at the heart of it, we want to spread joy, instill self-confidence in creativity, and provide a space that is safe for building community and exploration." This led them to adopt a more focused approach, growing their offerings slowly and thoughtfully.

A distinctive aspect of their studio is the emphasis on self-expression and open mindedness. "There is no ‘perfect’ way to make," they note, challenging the notion that expensive tools are necessary for creativity. Instead, they encourage a scrappy mindset, asking, "What can I do with this item? Can I see a purpose or a shape in this paper scrap?"

The Crafting Uniform

Yes, there’s an unofficial uniform here: overalls. Practical, comfortable, and just quirky enough, overalls symbolize the studio’s laid-back yet focused vibes. It’s this blend of fun and function that we believe will make Glue Craft Studio a hit at the market.

Join them at RVA Maker’s Market’s Big Queer Weekend at Basic City Beer in Manchester. Vanessa and Amy plan to offer a kids craft and candle painting on site! Take home tangible, hand made memories while supporting local artists!
